Upper Lip Dermabrasion in Bend, Oregon
About Dermabrasion
Dermabrasion is an established and time-tested method of reducing or removing facial wrinkles. It is particularly effective in the upper lip lines, but may also be used to good effect in the peri-oral area (an oval area extending from the nose to the lower edge of the chin). It is often performed at the same time as face lift surgery since face lift by itself does not improve peri-oral wrinkling.
During dermabrasion surgery, a rotating abrasive diamond-impregnated burr (similar to a mini-sander) is used to remove the outermost layers of damaged skin. Dr. Villano controls how much will be removed and determines how deeply to penetrate the skin depending upon the degree of wrinkling or scarring. This abrasive action evens out the skin and a new layer of smoother skin forms within 7 - 10 days.

Most people are "presentable", with makeup at this time. The new skin surface is initially pink or red and typically requires 6-8 weeks for this color to fade.
Dr. Villano and many other experienced plastic surgeons that have compared this type of dermabrasion with laser resurfacing have concluded that dermabrasion produces better results and faster healing with less risk of pigmentary changes than with the laser.
Surgical dermabrasion with a diamond burr should not be confused with microdermabrasion, which often produces little or no permanent improvement.
